Consumers Energy & DTE Rebate Program

Get a Furnace Diagnostic Tune-up and Receive a $50 Rebate!

Even the best heating equipment needs regular maintenance.  Properly maintained furnaces and boilers run more efficiently, last longer, and are safer for your family, the reason why Consumers Energy and DTE Energy created this rebate.

Right now you can receive a $50 rebate when you complete a furnace tune-up through Consumers Energy or DTE Energy’s Residential Furnace Diagnostic Tune-up program.  Thornton & Grooms is pleased to be a partner with Consumers Energy and DTE, offering rebate-qualifying furnace tune-ups to their Michigan neighbors.

What are “tune-up” rebates?
Consumers Energy and DTE recently announced rebates for furnace tune-ups performed by program approved contractors.  Thornton & Grooms is an approved contractor.

How Much Is the Rebate?
The rebate is $50 for each furnace.

Who qualifies for the rebate?
All residential, owner occupied homes that have furnaces and have DTE or Consumers Energy as their gas supplier.

How is a Diagnostic Tune-Up different from a Regular Tune-up?
While regular maintenance and service is beneficial, the Residential Furnace Diagnostic Tune-Up Program goes the extra mile. Your participating HVAC contractor will use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to evaluate your furnace, and then make adjustments to bring the equipment to like-new operating conditions. This will maximize efficiency and reliability, lower energy use costs, and extend the life of your system.

The tune-up service will include our typical 21 point operational inspection plus:

  • Measure the gas manifold pressure, as proper manifold pressure is needed for the system to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Inspect the system’s electrical components for wear, connectivity, and proper operation.
  • Check temperature rise for gas furnaces, to ensure proper equipment operation and desired comfort levels.
  • Inspect and verify proper size and operation of combustion venting (flue) systems.
  • Perform combustion efficiency tests, before and after the maintenance service.
  • Make sure all system controls are operating properly.
  • Inspect the heat exchanger with state of the art diagnostic tools – ensuring your family’s safety.

When did this rebate program start and when does it end?
The rebate program started on April 1, 2011.  The rebate is valid through the December 31, 2011 but only until funds last.

What steps have to be performed by the qualified mechanical contractor?
The furnace tune-up requires a combustion analysis.

The homeowner’s utility account number and signature must be on the rebate signature form.  In addition, the homeowner needs to pay for the tune-up and sign our (Thornton & Grooms) invoice.

How are the rebates processed?
The qualified contractor is required to process all rebates using a website portal.  The electronic application requires the following information: customer information, tune-up calculations, and uploaded scans of the paid invoice, signature page, and calculation document.

What is the homeowner required to do to receive the rebate?
Hire an approved trade ally of Consumer Energy or DTE Energy, sign the appropriate forms, pay for the tune-up, and wait for the rebate check to arrive in the mail from the utility company.

How is the rebate paid?
The rebate is mailed directly to the homeowner from the utility company.

How long does it take for the customer to receive the rebate?
It typically takes 8-10 weeks for the check to be received by the homeowner.

If the customer has more than one furnace can they receive rebates for tune-ups on each furnace?
Yes.

Do natural draft furnaces qualify for the rebate?
Yes.
