To date, about 80 percent of all the supplies on the Heartfelt Harvest shelves were bought by the organization’s founder, Cathy DeLeo. She hopes that as their doors open and word spreads, more donations for these in-home necessities will begin to pour in. Cathy also picks up fruit from local grocers to distribute to food pantries that are generally sending those in need home with non-perishable items.
A pantry like Cathy’s allows the growing homeless population in Farmington and Farmington Hills to receive more than food but to receive understanding and normality while they work to stabilize their families.
The $1,000 donation from Thornton & Grooms will help Heartfelt Harvest purchase a heating source for their pantry. It is currently not heated and their donations face potential freezing hazard this winter. Anyone interested in donating to Heartfelt Harvest can contact Cathy at Giving@HeartfeltHarves.org or call 248-885-3651.
Thornton & Grooms uses their Monthly Hearts & Heroes Award to provide assistance to local charitable organizations, schools, or groups in need, in their service area; recognizing their efforts and awarding $1,000 to their cause.
