Furnace - Maintain, Repair or Replace?

Sep. 28, 2015
In Michigan the weather can change faster than we expect  ... is your furnace ready for another Michigan Winter? Will it be able to carry your family and home successfully and efficiently through, what could be, another record breaking season? Do you know when your furnace needs maintenance or if it needs to be replaced?

Every furnace needs a little TLC. It doesn’t take much to keep your furnace from prematurely breaking down, but it’s rarely top of mind if the furnace is still producing heat. But you may not have considered this:

Frequent Repair? How often have you repaired your furnace in the last two years? It’s often said that the need for furnace repair occurs most in the last couple years before replacement is necessary.

Energy Bills? As your furnace ages it loses some efficiency. Even with maintenance; age and continuous use take its toll. Have your energy bills gone up even when your usage stayed the same? Your furnace may be running longer to reach the same temperatures simply because of age and poor efficiency; this is an indication that your furnace may need to be replaced.
There are also higher efficiency furnaces available than just five years ago.

Strange Noises? An old furnace will start making noises toward the end of its life. If you’ve recently been hearing squeaking, banging, or clanging, your furnace is trying to tell you something! It needs to be repaired or may need to be replaced.

The average lifespan for a furnace is 10 to 15 years if it is properly and well-maintained. If your furnace is 10 years or older, now would be a great time to research and save for a new system you may need soon. Scheduling annual furnace maintenance extends the life and efficiency of your furnace. If you're curious or have the feeling your furnace is on its way out, schedule a replacement specialist to give you a Free Estimate for replacement, today. Be proactive instead of reactive, it saves you money.
